Background of Issue
When we close out a job in XPM we need to complete a WIP wash up. We can do this by raising a final invoice or using the 'remove from invoice list' function within the job to wash up the WIP against the timesheet entries. Once the WIP is cleared from a job the job can be moved to a completed state in XPM. The completed state in XPM archives a job and the job will no longer displays on the Jobs list.
A common mistake is organisations often forget to complete the WIP wash up before marking the job as complete. The problem that this causes is work is progress remaining on completed (archived) jobs shows on our WIP ledger therefore overstating your WIP balance.
To resolve this, we simply need to review WIP on jobs in a completed state and invoice or write off the WIP.

How to Resolve
To ensure your closing WIP is accurate you will need to clear historic WIP. You can easily tidy this up by following the process below:
- Run the WIP movements report in Link reporting
Report Criteria:Start Date: 1/10/19 > End Date: Todays date > Group By: Job State> Then By: Job Info > Preview Report.
- This report will display WIP sorted by states.
- Drill down into the Completed state to see a list of jobs with WIP remaining.
- Use this report to copy the job number into the WFM search to find the job.
- Go to the financial tab of the job.
- Review the WIP on the job to determine if this jobs invoicing is complete and a WIP wash up can be processed.
- Use the 'Remove from Invoice List' button (located in the financial tab) to wash the remaining WIP against the timesheets on the job.
- Repeat for all jobs listed under the completed state on the report.
If you are certain all historic WIP can be cleared there is a bulk WIP wash up feature in XPM. To write-off jobs in bulk:
- In the Business menu, select Work in Progress.
- Select the List tab.
- Select the jobs to remove, then click Remove.
